The best good intentions

Good intentions. They are almost always things we feel we should "finally make time for." There is one question, however, that most of us don't make time for, even though it is crucial:

What if I am suddenly gone tomorrow?

• Is my family sufficiently protected?
• Do they know what needs to be done?
• Do they have visibility into everything I'm doing?
• Do they know all aspects of my assets?
• Can my company continue to run?
• Who will inherit what, and is that what I want?
• Is my will drafted correctly?
• What will the tax authorities ask?
• ...

But equally important is the question:

What if I want to enjoy my retirement later?

• Who will continue the business?
• How do I prepare my business for a sale?
• Or how do I pass it on to the next generation?
• Will I be able to maintain my standard of living or will I have to make do with a little less?
• Can I fulfill my dreams? (travel, country home, support (grand)children,...)
• ....

Every entrepreneur realizes that it is essential to answer all these questions in a timely manner. But daily realities (sales, growth, revenue, profits, staff...) make it so that the days simply have too few hours. And so it gets posponed again to tomorrow, next week, next year.

So let this be your good intention for 2026:

"This year I am investing in my own peace of mind. I want clarity about what will and can happen. Whether I turn 100yo or not: I want everything to be clear so that I no longer have to lie awake worrying about it."
